CALL FOR ARTISTS..... Deadline: 5pm, 1 March 2010

  • Project partners New Lodge Arts, Young at Art and Westland Community Group are collaborating on a large-scale free outdoor children’s event taking place on 22 May 2010, 12.00 – 8.00pm in the Waterworks Park, North Belfast.

As part of Belfast Children’s Festival this event will offer families an exciting range of free activities including an outdoor music arena, workshops, face painting, circus performances, children’s market and sports activities. A key component of this unique cultural event will be the transformation of the physical environment of the park with large-scale temporary art installations developed by artists in collaboration with groups from local schools and communities.

The main objectives of the project are to promote innovative use of the park as a shared space, a feeling of ownership by local residents and to highlight this beautiful amenity in the heart of North Belfast.

The theme of the Belfast Children’s Festival this year is ‘perspectives’. With a focus on the use of colour and circular forms, the visual arts programme will introduce unexpected textile/sculptural elements that provide a colour or textural contrast to the Waterworks in tree, grass and water areas. Artists working in sculpture, textile art, carnival arts, printmaking, painting and other media will be considered.

Selected artists will form a panel which will be drawn from to develop and deliver visual arts outreach programmes in collaboration with a range of community/school groups to produce the temporary artworks.
